City Centre Hospital

Two derelict areas into new garden and landscaped courtyard

Caterpillar Ward Courtyard  Landscaping

Creation of an enclosed, designed landscape, courtyard space at the street entrance to St Michaels Hospital's Caterpillar Ward.

  • Enclosed upper space via new timber infill fences between existing structures, plus new vertical steel bar railing, controlled access street gate.
  • New paving and lighting along with fixed seating, planting in raised planters and a timber shelter with a planted green roof.
  • A new deck constructed from a composite timber product supported above the level of the sloping planted area, below the paved courtyard.
  • Steps and a ramp provided with handrails and balustrade link the paved space to the decked area constructed around existing trees.

New CRIC Garden

Construction of a new garden in an existing space to the south side of the Clinical Research and Imaging Centre building on St Michaels Hill. Including remedial work to the upper entrance areas to the same building.

  • Clearance of existing shrubs beneath the trees and within one existing raised planter and removal off site. Felling and removal of arisings from trees.
  • Preparation and amelioration of the soil areas for new planting.
  • New planting throughout including shrubs, perennial plants and grasses, bulbs and trees as well as provision of a small lawn.
  • Construction of a new vertical bar fence and controlled access gate at the entrance adjoining the raised planter to the lower garden.
  • Construction of steps, paved areas, platforms and shelters at the top and lower level of the garden. Some adjusting of levels to accommodate the structures, steps and planted areas.
  • Supply and fix of furniture, timber pergola and green planted roofed shelter, solar lighting.
  • Supply and fix of acoustic screen to baffle noise to air handling units beneath caged area of the building and visible to the outside.

 

Claire Gardens

Complete refurbishment of city centre gardens

Park improvements included:

  • New resin bound paths
  • New seating/tables including: steel picnic benches, Georgian benches, Chess table & stools, seating area for teenagers.
  • Community Gardens, with raised planters, paved surface, compost area and watering facility (rain water harvesting)
  • Calisthenics area (Body weight exercise)
  • Table Tennis
  • Two new gate entrances to improve access and public safety. Public safety has also been improved by selecting low planting & features, removing existing obstructions (tall hedges) and allow open surveillance across the park.
  • Meadow areas, new lawn, and ground cover planting

St George's Park

Very small budget play area

The John Deasy play area in St George's Park was refurbished on a very small budget for Bristol City Council. 

Phase 1 includes:

  • a toddler area with a swing set, sandpit and 4 new pieces of equipment
  • trim trail equipment for children aged 4+
  • exisiting equipment re-installed including an embankment slide, see-saw rocker and bowl-spinner
  • somersault bars
  • sensory chimes
  • Preparation for the Phase 2 work by creating all the formation levels and then covering them with terram and soil ready for Phase2 to commence
